PTA Fundraiser-Great Discounts for the Hometown Buffet

The PTA is selling Fundraiser cards for the Hometown Buffet. Each card costs only $10 and is worth $50 in valuable coupons at the Hometown Buffet. The order form was sent home with the Bulletin week of January 16th! If you don't love the Hometown Buffet yourself, maybe you have a family member, friend or neighbor who does! The funds will be used towards keeping our computer lab instructor here at Washington for the next school year.

2011 Multicultural Potluck

The 2011 Multicultural Potluck featured food from around the world representing the Washington community -volunteers from the high school helped serve up heaps of delicious dishes.  Students performed a Native American dance and the ASES Choir sang to a crowded auditorium.

After dinner, students took "passports" on a tour of the world set up in classrooms across campus.  The classrooms featured cultural deserts, student projects, art and cultural artifacts celebrating the diversity of Earth's peoples.

Two Great Math Events in November!

Our students had two great opportunities to have fun and learn with Math this month. Thursday, November 3rd was the annual PTA sponsored Math Night. There were math related games and activities for kids ages K-5th grade and their families. Kids made kaleidoscopes, marshmallow sculptures and played many games. Check out the pictures on the Washington PTA Facebook page.

Friday, November 4th was an all day  Math Festival for Washington students only held during school hours. The awesome games and activities were organized by the California Mathematics Council. Washington teacher Katy McCarthy sponsored the Math Festival with a portion of the award funds she received for winning a  2010 Presidential Award for Excellence in Math and Science Teaching.
