PTA Newsletter

The Washington Elementary PTA publishes a quarterly newsletter. The newsletter usually features an article about a recent or upcoming event. It also includes information about future school and community events. If you are interested in contributing to the newsletter, please contact the PTA President, Mary Gregory or the PTA Corresponding Secretary, Jessica Henselmann. Correspondence for the PTA can be placed in the PTA box in the office.

Yes on L-let's rally Washington!

Measure L  is San Leandro Unified's critical effort to take control over the future of our schools and stabilize our funding. If the measure passes, San Leandro will finally have a fully localized source of revenue as of the 2013-2014 school year!!  We need concerned families and families to help in this effort!

Block Walk this Saturday, October 6th!  Starts @ 10:00 AM.  Meet at Jefferson Elementary, 14300 Bancroft Ave. You can walk for a few hours or more! Meeting voters and sharing about how Measure L will help our kids is so important in getting voters out and voting YES on Measure L!

1) Phone Banking! Washington has 3 more evenings scheduled, Thursday, October 4th, 5:30-8:30 pm, Monday, October 15th, 5:30-8:30PM, AND Tuesday, October 30th 5:30-8:30 PM . Phone banking will take place at the Measure L campaign headquarters: 101 Estudillo at the corner of East 14th.

2) Lawn signs-if you would like one, please let Kristen know, and she will arrange to have one delivered.

3) Registering families to vote and handing out flyers just outside of school gate before and after school.  Regardless of how they vote, it's great to get folks registered to vote!

4) Donate $$ to the campaign. Mail to Measure L Campaign, 151 Callan Ave, Suite 200, San Leandro, CA 94577.

If you can  help with phone banking, please let Kristen know ASAP via e-mail:

Dear Washington Families-

It’s good to see familiar faces & meet families new to Washington! Thanks to many tireless volunteers and our supportive school families the PTA had a great 2011-2012 school year! The PTA:

  • Sponsored and organized 6 after school enrichment classes.
  • Sponsored and organized 10 events such as Walk & Roll to School, Soul Food Night Scholastic Book Fair and Parent’s Night Outs.
  • Organized 4 Fundraising events that earned $20,000.
  • Reimbursed our teachers $3,100 for classroom supplies & materials.
  • Supported grade level class field trips (including 4th and 5th grade Outdoor Education) by donating over $4,000 to cover expenses.
  • Paid for 30% of the Computer Lab Instructor’s Salary to make up for lost school site $$ due to CA State Budget cuts.

PTA membership envelopes will be sent home shortly. Dues are only $5 per member. Please consider helping us have another special school year by becoming a member!

We hope everyone enjoyed the summer break and had some special time with their children. The Washington Elementary PTA is busy getting ready for the 2012-2013 school year and we're excited to help welcome families, students and teachers back to school! We'll have volunteer signup sheets handy to help Washington with school events, after school classes, etc.

Please also consider joining the PTA. When you join the PTA, you are getting more involved with your child's education, working to support Washington's teachers, and having a positive impact for all children, not just your won. The Washington PTA sponsors many school community events throughout the school year and raises funds for classroom supplies and teaching materials, field trips, educational software and technology.

Joining the PTA does not mean that you have to come to all meetings, but it does mean that you are showing your support for Washington!  Dues are only $5 per individual member.  We'll send home a membership envelope in the next few weeks.  Thank you!

Sincerely,

Mary Gregory
