After School Education and Safety "ASES"

A Positive Place Where Together We Are Accepted, Inspired and Encouraged to Grow.

Washington Elementary provides the program, After School Education Safety (ASES) through a contract with the Boys & Girls Clubs of San Leandro, which administers the ASES program. A wonderful partnership developed between the San Leandro Unified School District and the Boys & Girls Club of San Leandro at Washington to create a fantastic ASES Program with the vision of "Exploring Our World Through Nature!"

While ASES is located at Washington, it is a separate program that students must be enrolled in to participate.  The program is open for students in first through fifth grade.  The Youth Development Coordinators work for the Boys & Girls Clubs of San Leandro at Washington and create amazing activities for students that are aligned with the State Education Standards.

The program is open every day that school is in session until 6pm.  Members are required to attend five days a week for a minimum of 15 hours per week.  Monday through Thursday each member attends an Enrichment Block and a Homework Block.  On Friday members get to participate in Free Choice Fridays.  They have the opportunity to choose two activities like, cooking class, dance, dodge ball, science, just to name a few.

For more information, please contact Micheal Geier, Site Director at 510-856-6611 Email:  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Scholarships are available, but space fills up fast so make sure to enroll your child in the spring time for the upcoming school year!

Washington ASES Helps Break A World Record

They jumped…and jumped...and jumped – nonstop for two consecutive minutes. In doing so, members of the Boys & Girls Club of San Leandro (BGCSL) at Washington Elementary – also known as ASES – have officially broken the Guinness World Record for Star Jumps (Jumping Jacks). The news comes after months of anticipation since the record-breaking attempt occurred last spring as part of a nationwide effort by Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) to have the most people doing Star Jumps in multiple venues simultaneously for two minutes.

The Washington Elementary ASES program contributed 86 jumpers to the official multi-venue total of 20,425. BGCA embarked on this initiative with its Clubs across the country and on U.S. military bases overseas through the organization’s Triple Play program. This program, supported by founding sponsor Coca-Cola and the WellPoint Foundation, encourages kids to eat a balanced diet, become more physically active and increase their ability to engage in healthy relationships.

Many thanks to Kathy Thompson. Washington's PE teacher, for serving as our official witness. And congratulations to all our student participants!
